Understanding Vedic Astrology
Explore the ancient wisdom of Jyotish, the science of light and time.
Origins & History
Vedic astrology, also known as Jyotish, is an ancient Indian system of astrology that dates back over 5,000 years. It is deeply rooted in the Vedic traditions and is considered one of the six Vedangas (limbs of the Vedas).
Key Principles
Unlike Western astrology, Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which accounts for the precession of the equinoxes. This results in a more astronomically accurate system.
The Nine Planets
Vedic astrology considers nine celestial bodies: Sun (Surya), Moon (Chandra), Mars (Mangal), Mercury (Budha), Jupiter (Guru), Venus (Shukra), Saturn (Shani), and the nodes Rahu and Ketu.
Houses & Signs
The birth chart is divided into 12 houses, each representing different aspects of life. The 12 zodiac signs, called Rashis, have unique characteristics and influences.
Nakshatras
The 27 lunar mansions or Nakshatras provide deeper insights into personality traits, timing of events, and spiritual growth.
Dashas
The unique planetary period system called Dashas helps predict the timing of life events and the influence of different planets during specific periods.
